General Description

The fire station is in Central Islip on a site of 2.03 Acres. The site is surrounded by Eastview Drive and Lowell Avenue. Other streets that lead to the site include Rosewood E Cherry Street, Hunter Drive and sunburst Boulevard. The dominant trees on the site are pitch pine and white oak, which happen to be the dominant trees in Central Islip. The site is located within a residential area and the building is considered to be a type B building. This design project exhibits particular patterns regarding architectural style, mass, bulk, scale, level and quality of architectural details. The new building is compatible with its neighborhood in positive ways. For instance, floor plan and elevations are a set of instructions for the design. They are directions for how many, where to position, how to connect the pieces of a puzzle or house. They are a means of communicating a connection between inside and outside (where the windows are located and how tall the roof is), but also a glimpse into the design process. For the design of this building, it was necessary to continuously explore new building energysaving technologies. The application of integrated design methods needs to be more knowledge of multiple disciplines organically linked to design ideas and methods together to achieve synchronous communication and connection in the entire building system.
